some people are brave, bitch! i have to stay out of this to keep my blood pressure down — and i’m not using that phrase lightly. i mean it, it is seriously bad for my health such that the ticker goes a little haywire — the electrolytes spaz — when i’m stressed. i always thought that was a lot of hooha, but I’ve learned over the past six months that it’s not. anyway… enough with all that shit b/c i will not throw a pity party. i opened my google feed which i use primarily at work. i end up at bitch phd where I read Scott Eric Kaufman of Acephalous taking issue with bitch seemingly unqualified support of Steinem’s essay in the NYT. bphd thought Scott was misreading. I don’t think so…. Just read Steinem’s self serving commentary in the introduction to To Be Real the third wave manifesta from Alice Walker’s daughter, Rebecca Walker. Steinem’s introduction was, I thought, self-serving. She pretty much glides over the issues and wants to insist that her second wave movement was happily integrated and focused on the needs and issue of women of color — and, thus, the third wave’s criticisms of the centrality of white womanness in the feminist movement were misplaced because based on inaccurate information.

somebody in the comment thread there said it was like reading a conversation from the 70s.
