training journal, 08.02.21, i’m boring when i’m training edition

All my time is now being taken up with training physically or training, uh, mentally? As to the later, I say ‘uh’ because I am taking some company training courses. Hence, instead of reading books or arguing politics, I’m reading management ideology such as theories of emotional intelligence, time management, coaching v. training. fascinating insight into the world. Years ago, teaching a course, my students encountered Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in Ehrenreich’s _Hearts of Men_. One was thrilled to learn that same hierarchy of needs in her management training materials from work. I have always thought it would be interesting to study these things, to see what gets served up as ‘the way it is’ in this material. Ah well….
