it’s the lolcat recruiter!
By shag carpet bomb • Aug 19th, 2008 • Category: Belly Button Lint, Workwhee! i have been bizee job hunting. i have turned down two gigs — because i can be choosy since i’m still employed and because i could tell from the interview that they’d be a crap place to work. consider for example a company for which oh, gosh, i dunno, practically everybody who uses the intert00bz knows about. no, it’s not microsoft. they are located in same vicinity as microsoft, though. anyway, consider their totally ridiculous treat-you-like-a-machine-screening interview. the guy was like a robot. i know someone intimately involved with hiring software developers at said company, and boy-o-boy, am i going to give him what-for next time i’ve scheduled time to breath.
speaking of which: i’ve been too busy to post. not b/c of job, which is a little hectic — the attrition rate is 35% and they’re in a hiring freeze. oh. yeah.
meanwhile, i’m getting interesting calls from totally cool companies from all over - nyc, boston, seattle, portland, san francisco, san jose, cupertino, d.c.. i was getting them from even more all over until i changed my profile to be a little more discriminating about where i wanted to work.
i’m also getting tons of stupe inquiries from recruiters who don’t even bother to read the resume. i guess they use the shotgun approach. shot. aim poorly. fire. and hope the shot will scatter and hit something.
i usually just scratch my head when someone is looking for advanced coldfusion skills, when mine are beginner and i say so clearly. but i scratch my head more when i get inquiries for position in technologies i don’t even list. Like .NET. Nowhere on my resume does it say .NET. Nowhere. Nonetheless, someone is desperate somewhere to get a .NET developer.
but what’s even better is when they write and say this:
Shud be strong on graphic designing , screen designing and well versed with dot net technology and should be able to work independently.Comm skills should be good !
It’s the lolcat recruiter! and it makes me worry that they don’t know that it’s .NET! and not dotnet!
*shakes head*
gotta run. phone ringing. and yes, i kiss the ground and sacrifice goats for my good fortune. of course, not totally good fortune. R got laid off b/c of the economy. the small agency where he worked dumped 10% of their staff. They just couldn’t afford them with no business coming in. bummer, too, because he loved, loved, loved that job. totally. he liked the people, practically worshipped his boss, and just loved the environment — really cool, smart people full of enthusiasm and energy.
anyway, he’ll be OK. we’ll be OK. R’s biggest problem is not realizing that he’s not as beginner-level as he thinks he is.
that’s been the biggest shock to me. i’ve been shocked at how in demand my css skills are. turns out, i tend to score as expert on all their tests. weird thing is, comparing myself to the pros, i don’t think i’m expert at all. but i guess that’s the wrong pool of folks to which I should compare.
anyway. do gotta run. the phone is vibing now. ooogh.
