training journal, 2009.02.11, unmatched shoes edition

I almost called this edition, “NOw, where was I?” because it feels like it’s been forever. And it sorta has. R got sick with the flu last week, then I got it Friday and was sick all weekend and Monday. Dragged my ass to work Tuesday since, with this economy, better keep on your toes kinda thing…

I can’t believe that my last post was 1/29! Trust me, though, I did work out! Honest! No really! :)

I should go look it up, to be anal retentive about it. Maybe i will this weekend, right now, just want to log today. I started a new routine, which means focusing on the lifting, and easing up on the cardio. It’s just for a couple of months, then back to the cardio. Right now, the goal is to obtain a little muscle building and cardio is bad for that. I used to be able to tell you some of the mechanics behind muscle building — as well as catabolism. The difference between lean body mass and muscle. Blah blah blah. Someday, I ought to drag that stuff all out and post it for the hell of it.

I call this edition “unmatched shoes” because there’s this guy on the net bus, regular rider. Seems to work downtown, carries a briefcase and always has the newspaper. I rarely ride the bus, but this day I did for some reason and looked down at his feet. He had on, seriously!, two different kinds of shoes. Not totally different, mind. Just two rather similar shoes, but clearly the detailing was different and the shades of black slightly different. So, now I’m looking for an opportunity to catch him on the bus again to find out: is this his everyday routine — perhaps some comfort reason for doing this — or, did he really? could it be? he put on the wrong shoes one morning, like people have been known to have on two different socks.

tickled me pink, that one.

Today, I dragged my ass out of bed at 4:30 to get some coffee in me and hit the gym at 5:00 for a full body workout. Yeah yeah yeah. I know. Full body routines are out of favor. Fuckifino why. But this suits me — although some weeks, I’ll probably do splits, just because I might not be able to afford an entire hour and twenty and need to break it up. Like this morning. I didn’t fit it all in. Maybe I’ll hit it tomorrow….

Last Friday, I did my first full body routine — dripping nose an’ all. Man, that sucked. Haven’t had one of those lovely, nose-drips-like-a-faucet colds, in ages.
