i think johnny cash has a song for their pain
By shag carpet bomb • Sep 2nd, 2009 • Category: Election 2008, Obama, Obama administration, Politicsafter watching this administration do exactly as Glen Ford, Aldoph Reed, Uhuru, Anthony Kennerson, yours truly, and others said he would — reveal himself to be the rightwing shit that he always proudly said he was — i hope ppl like the blogger at reappropriate and people, like sylvia, who argued that obama was more anti-war and more liberal than clinton will have a johnny cash song or something with which to consle their shame.
it was a popular argument in lefty circles, i even made it, that we might as well cheer on the obama idiocy before the campaign. we knew what would happen; it happened with clinton. after reagan and bush, people were so ecstatic to have a democrat in the office and a young one at that! it was all new and different. whee.
and their hopes were dashed when clinton revealed himself to be the rightwing asshole he’d always said he was. i think a lot of the people who moved toward the anti-globalization movement, toward anarchism (not the same thing), etc. and who got involved? they were disgusted with the democrats and finally realized they had to get outside the warp and woof of electoral politics.
and while i’ve made the argument myself, i think there is something pretty disturbing about the utter silence on the issue by those who worked actively for his campaign.
sure, you’re busy. you burnt yourself out on the campaign.
yeah. exactly. that is *why* people get so pissed when young brilliant energetic people get wrapped up in conventional electoral politics. they get burnt out. they don’t know how to sustain the momentum after the election. indeed, they start to realize that the system has no place for them after an election, not really.
anyway, i’d like to be petty and say something much more rude. i’ll just stop and contemplate my impending vacation. :)
