swirly gigs
By shag carpet bomb • Oct 26th, 2009 • Category: Belly Button Lintha! i have so much fun riding my bike on mowbray arch. there is never any traffic, except joggers and dog walkers, and I feel like I’m a kid again. Because you know what I do? I swirl my bike from one side of the street to the other making long winding S shapes in the road. I rode home tonight with a light misty rain at first, but it subsided fortunately. I got to use my new flashing lights — headlight and backlight. You can tap the switch and get different patterns: steady on, flashing steady, or some bizarro irregular flashing. Supposed to help people see you. I have a feeling I’m going to ride the side walks when daylight savings hits. Oh well. But after Dec 22, the days will just get longer and I can watch as it gets lighter and lighter out. So, a couple of months of the darkness to deal with.
Today, I went to a meeting to be a parade escort for the Grand Illumination Parade this year. Fun times! Guy was there, geeking out about walkie talkies and ham radios and stuff. I guess one woman has the task of escorting a yearly float: a concrete mixer painted pink and decorated up as a holiday float. fun!
i just want to do it b/c I can and because I love marching bands!
i love my neighborhood. There are always people around — a lot more family oriented than when we lived downtown near work, which was mostly older folks or young urban singles and couples. The recent neighborhood was dominated by hasidic jewish families who wouldn’t talk to anyone else and wouldn’t let their kids play with other kids, especially not gentiles.
our neighbors who’re from Bosnia, had two kids, but the oldest, a girl in sixth grade, was pretty lonesome. when i walked home, she would swing out of a tree where she often read a book and waited for me. we’d walk home together and talk about her latest interests. she moved back to Bosnia with her mom, because her mom had to move back to take care of elderly relatives. Their dad’s still there, and pretty lonesome. So once we get settled, we’re having him over for dinner. We could hardly extricate ourselves the other night, he was so lonesome for company I think.
We have some other friends who live on this side of town. A guy we know from user group meetings. His girlfriend just moved here from California, and they live about three blocks east. Can’t wait to have them over for dinner either!
Well, i must hit the sack. later later.
oh! P.S. I can’t figure out where to put my book shelves. I have three that fill up the entire wall of the sunroom off the kitchen. But they could also be places near the windows in the living room. One on each side and one in between the windows. I’m so traumatized by having to make a decision!
Also! I learned that the furniture store that sells stickley is having a blow out sale. I’m going to invest in at least a couple of stickley pieces, damn it. Or the ScanWorld store. I don’t know which yet. But I swear to dog I’m going to have them give me one of those free decorating service treatments where I tell them what I like, point at paint and fabric swatches that get my mojo working and then they come back at me with pretty pictures suggesting how I should decorate it all. Basically I want to tell someone what I want and then they come back and tell me what I want. It would be so much easier that way!
