Ocracoke

I had wanted to stay directly on Ocracoke. Alas, I couldn’t find a place as cheap at the place on Hatteras Island — 600$ for a week - and that included pool table, swimming pool, ginormous hot tub, game room, media center, and just off the ocean with an ocean view. On Ocracoke, prices are considerably higher, though I’m not sure why exactly since, as far as we could see, most of them stood empty and unrented when we biked the island.

I’m gonna try to upload photos into a gallery. I did it once before, but haven’t yet figured out what I did last time.

Anyway, we spent one day just biking Ocracoke and visiting the shops. They have a lot of shops displaying the art work of potters, woodworkers, photographers, etc.. I’m really at the point where, if I want a salad bowl and salad tongs, I want something cool and unique, not some piece of shit from Walmart or even something nicer, but still, well, ordinary. Last year, I got myself something totally stupid that I never allowed myself the luxury because, honestly?, who really needs a soap dish, liquid soap dispenser, toothbrush holder, right? Totally unnecessary. So I got myself a set anyway. :)

I really really wanted a cherry wood salad bowl and salad fork and spoon - whateverthefuckyoucallit. It was from Village Craftsman which has some cool stuff.

But! What I couldn’t get over was that some of the stuff wasn’t much better than the rilly rilly bad stuff I made in pottery class. I mean, some of the bowls were definitely misshapen in ways that were not purposeful. And they sold them for a pretty penny anyway! I coulda made money off my crap! :)

OK gonna try a gallery:
